Zanzibar Gem Zamioculcas Zamiifolia

The Zanzibar Gem or Zamioculcas Zamiifolia also known as, ZZ plant is a popular houseplant known for its attractive, glossy green leaves and its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions.

  • The leaves are smooth, shiny, and oval-shaped. They are a deep green color, which can sometimes appear almost black in certain lighting. Leaves grow alternately along the stems in a pinnate pattern.
  • The stems are thick and fleshy, helping the plant store water.  They grow upright and can reach up to 3 feet in height.

Care Requirements

ZZ Plants prefer bright, indirect light. They are highly tolerant of low light conditions, making them ideal for offices and darker rooms. Watering should be infrequent; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.  ZZ Plants are drought-tolerant and can survive periods of neglect. Well-draining potting mix is ideal.

ZZ Plants are known to help purify the air by removing toxins such as xylene, toluene, and benzene. Their minimal water and light requirements make them one of the easiest houseplants to care for.
