The Purple False Eranthemum, scientifically known as Eranthemum atropurpureum, is a tropical shrub admired for its striking purple foliage and attractive appearance. Native to India and Southeast Asia, Polynesia, this plant is cultivated for ornamental purposes in gardens and landscape. It features elongated leaves with a deep, rich purple color that can vary in intensity depending on light exposure and growing conditions. The leaves are typically lance-shaped, glossy and arranged oppositely along the stems. When in bloom, the plant produces small clusters of tubular, white-colored flowers that add to its aesthetic appeal. Its maximum height is 90cm-150cm and spread maximum up to 35cm to 70cm.

Care Tips for False Eranthemum:

Provide bright, indirect sunlight for optimal growth and these plants thrive in well-lit areas but avoid direct sunlight, as it might scorch the leaves. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-80 degree fahranheit also protect the plant from cold drafts or sudden temperature drops, as it’s sensitive to cold. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly before watering again.

These plants appreciate high humidity and increase humidity levels by misting the leaves regularly or placing the pot on a humidity tray with water and pebbles. Plant in well-draining, fertile soil. A mix of potting soil, peat moss and perlite or sand for improved drainage works well. Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season every 2-4 weeks.
