Moss Rose / Portulaca commonly known as purslane, is a vibrant, hardy annual known for its beautiful, colorful flowers and its ability to thrive in hot, dry conditions.

Appearance

• Portulaca flowers come in a variety of bright colors including red, orange, yellow, pink, white, and bi-colored. The flowers are typically small, cup-shaped, and have a crepe-paper texture. They bloom from late spring to the first frost.
• The leaves are small, cylindrical, and fleshy.  They are usually a bright green, sometimes tinged with red.  Leaves grow in a dense, mat-forming pattern.

Care Requirements

Portulaca thrives in full sun. They require at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal flowering.  Water sparingly; they are drought-tolerant and prefer dry conditions. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Ensure soil is well-draining.  Sandy or rocky soil is ideal.  Well-draining soil is essential to prevent waterlogging.
